North Beach Soccer Club
A mixed bag for North Beach with two wins and three losses. New people to join the ladder are
Frank O'Neill and Jo Charlesworth.
Special mention also to Darren Young who got two for his new team and Russell Sinclair who got his second for the firsts
First team Vs North Lake
North Beach 2 North Lake 3
Scorer Russell 1, Derek 1
Yet another nail biter from the first team. Both teams came into the game with high hopes. A chat with the North Lake coach before kick off revealed that like North Beach they had had problems getting the ball in the net this season. This wasn't a problem however when they scored about 25 minutes into the first half.
At half time Derek gave a stirring half time talk and the guys came out fighting. However once again, against the run of play North Lake were able to but away a very soft goal to go 2 nil up.
With about 20 minutes to go Russell got involved in a good cross from Derek in the goal mouth and was able to force the ball into the net. At 2 - 1 it looked as if North Beach were on the move. This however was halted when North lake scored their third goal.
North Beach pulled one back when Derek scored from 20 meters out with a lovely left.
Although North beach continued to put pressure on the opposition they were not able to put the equalizer in the net.
In the last 4 weeks North Beach have played the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed team. With the exception of last week at Subiaco we have lost three of the games by 1 goal. Today was also the first time since since round 2 that we have scored more than one goal in a game. I know that we will turn these close losses and draws into wins soon and just need to stay focused.
Reserves Vs North Lake
North Beach 4 North Lake 0
Scorers Chris 2, Nick 1 (P) Merlin 1
North Beach once again took the field with a changed team from the previous week. With Russell, Ryan and Tom all starting for the first team we had Jake, George and Kyle come into the team.
It was a very tight affair with both teams looking good. The deadlock was finally broken when Chris got a head to a perfectly placed corner from Heath.
That was to be the final scoring for quite some time. North beach went into the changing rooms knowing that a 1 goal lead was not much considering that would be going up hill and into a very strong wind in the second half. I am delighted to say however that for the first time for a while they came out and played better in the second half than in the first.
The scores remained tied until 20 minutes into the half when Steve was taken down in the box and Nick slotted the penalty. The pressure was taken off even further when 60 seconds later Steve crossed the ball and Chris connected to score a lovely goal.
The scoring was finished off at 30 minutes into the half when Merlin who was running down the left chested a ball that would have gone over most players heads (I told you he was tall) past the defender and then put the ball in the net.
A good result that sees North beach retain its spot at the top of the table and we have now opened a 9 point gap from the third placed team. Gwelup who also won 4 nil remain 2 points behind us.
Social
North Beach Vs Burrendah Bombers
Scorers Darren Young 2
A very even game until approx 20 minutes from the end when Darren got the first of his two goals. Unfortunately I missed the second as I needed to set up the bar for the thirsty hordes but judging by Darren's recollections it was certainly the goal of the season (Just joking) Darren was actually very modest and said it was probably only the second best of the season.
Great to see the Social boys back in winning form and with Darren joining the team we can expect lots more goals and wins
Masters Vs Hamersley
North Beach 1 Hamersley 4
Scorer Frank O'Neill
Yes you are reading it right. Finally after continuous injury problems Frank has put the goal in the net. Talk about Mr lucky I think he has only played about 1 game all season and has had his Knee cap broken, Foot injured and his ear torn off. Great effort Frank and I hope the second half of the season is a little luckier than the first.
This was a very good game with Hamersley going out to a big first half lead. North Beach played much better in the second half and pulled the difference back by 1 goal.
Ladies Div 2
North Beach 1 Beckenham Angles 2
Scorers Jo Charlesworth
Great effort here from the girls against the top team. This shows that we can match it with any team in the comp. I look forward to future games and the success that will come
