First team Vs Vs Gwellup

A good number of supporters (well Pete, Alan, Stewart and Gordon to start with) turned up to watch the first team take on the League leaders, North Beach started strongly and had a number of great opportunities to score in the first half. however like the last 30 minutes of last weeks game against Suburb's we did not manage to put the goal in the net. the defenders kept up their great work and it was good to go to half time with no goals against us and North Beach were certainly looking the more likely team to score.
like the reserves the Gwelup first team came out in the second half a far more motivated team than we had seen in the first half. They were however the first team to score with them scoring against the run of play.
North Beach attacked and attacked but were unable to score. The final result was a not a true reflection of the game and North beach were unlucky to come away with no points. It was the best game I have seen north beach play in the last 2 years and I am confident that the season holds great thing for us. It was great to see four players making their debut for the team and I look forward to seeing them play in the next few weeks
We are now only a few points shy of where we were at the same stage last year and am confident that like last year we will go on and challenge for a top spot in the league.

It was well known just how hard it was to take points whilst playing at the Gwelup home ground. I stand to be corrected but I think that the first team and the reserves have only taken 1 point between them in the last two years.
So it was with a certain sense of anticipation that the reserves rocked up to play the first game of the day. Russell, after advising the coach that he couldn't play due to an injured back just 30 minutes before the game agreed to take the field and see how he went. It turned out to be a good move as after a very even opening 25 minutes Russell centered a lovely ball to the ever reliable Steven Mac who slotted it into the net. Ten minutes later Russell was once again involved by forcing a free kick inside the goal box after the Gwelup defender was forced to pass back to the keeper.
The entire Gwelup team filled the goal mouth. Russell rolled the ball to Nick who drove it into the top right hand corner for a fantastic goal.
Half time North beach 2 Gwelup nil
North beach had the game for the taking but forgot to allow for the passion that Gwelup bring to the game. Gwelup scored their first goal 10 minutes into the half and then scored a second 5 minutes later. with about 15 minutes to go Gwelup scored yet again to finally take the lead at 3 : 2.
North Beach however were not going to give up and continued to attack from all areas of the park. The crippled Russell then set up a free kick by being taken down 10 meters outside of the box. Russell elected to take the kick himself and drove a beautiful ball over the wall and around the keeper.
Final score 3 all. It was agreed by all (Except maybe the North Beach coach) that this was a great result for the North Beach team. We now look forward to playing Gwelup on our ground where we will be freer to play our style of game on the big pitch.
